To whom it may concern. We have Backup exec 20 and it was working fine and completely licensed until December 2019. But now Veritas requires that we renew the license yearly. I went to Vertitas licensing and downloaded another license and then followed the procedure outlined in this web site to remove the existing license and then re-add in the new license. yesterday our backups stopped since apparently the license I installed on November 20, 2019 didn't work and the server was in Trial mode, which ran out yesterday. We are a small non profit and purchased the license through techsoup.org, so we got a NFR perpetual license, which in theory should be good forever. After doing the procedure again last night, when I go to license, I enter the new license which is valid from yesterday until 2021, and then go through the procedure, however, when it says which product to apply the license to, there is nothing showing. After installing the license, when I go to Installation and Licensing --> License Information, it says "Your trial period has expired".When I go to Installation and LIcensing --> License Contract Information, the screen is blank. Nothing is showing. When I go to Installation and LIcensing --> Install features and licenses on this backup exec server - it shows active license Entitlement ID A403XXXXXXX - Backup Exec Not for Resale Start Date 1/20/2020 End Date 1/19/2020.I tried upgrading to version Backup Exec 20.6 last night and the same behavior holds true. So despite having a valid license, it is not applying to the Backup Exec 20 server for any reason. Please help, we need backups!Thank youDavid and JuliaI fixed it myself by uninstalling and then reinstalling the entire Backup Exec system. This is a atrosity that I'm going to have to reinstall the backup system every time I renew the license year to year. Going to a yearly renewal of the license is one of the most stupid things I've seen from Veritas especially since it forces clients to have to reinstall to fix their system to apply the license. I hope you fix this in later releases of the product and go back to a perpetual license.. Folder (or rename it if you want to save the catalogs from your restore media) and rename the “Catalogs.old” folder to “Catalogs”. Go back into the BEUtility. Right click on your backup server and select “Recover Database” once again. This time select “Drop existing database and reload from backup”. Once it finishes we’re done! We can go back into Backup Exec and verify that our backup jobs are back.Appendix 1 – Stubborn Catalog JobsIf your catalog jobs are still failing after doing all the above, try as a last resort. Basically what we are doing is running the catalog job at a low level, byte by byte, sector by sector, rather than just reading the catalog on the media. This is only recommended if you are comfortable making changes to the Windows registry.I would of course recommend making a backup of the registry first. Next we open up the registry (Start->Run and type in regedit). Open up this entry: “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Engine\NTFS” and change the value of the FsUseAsyncIo key to ‘0’. Next go to “HKLM\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Engine\Tape Format” and change both of the following keys also to ‘0’: “Use Fast Append” and “Use Fast File Restore”. Once these registry changes are done we need to restart the BE services so they go into effect.Once you go back into Backup Exec, make sure the “Use Storage Media-Based Catalogs” option is unchecked. If the media you are trying to catalog is disk based, there is one last step. Under the Devices tab, right click on the Backup-to-Disk folder which holds the restore media. Select Properties and then the Configuration tab. Under Device settings uncheck “Auto detect settings” and then make sure “Buffered reads” and “Buffered writes” are also unchecked. Under Concurrent operations allow only 1 concurrent operation. Finally rerun your catalog jobs, one by one. The above steps will ensure that a low level catalog is done. Barring any physical damage or bad sectors on the media, this should work. Once you’re done undo everything you’ve done. Set the 3 registry keys back to ‘1’ and check off “Auto detect settings” in within theComments
