Cleaning Masters with SSEEdit quick autoclean
FILE CLEANINGInfo: Bethesda's official DLCs contain deleted references, which can cause problems when modding the game. These "dirty edits" are not causing any problem if the game is left un-modded. However, when mods are loaded, these dirty edits can cause crashes. Why Bethesda didn't think it was necessary to spend the 10 minutes it takes to clean up their sloppy editing before release (twice) is a mystery, but fortunately it's very easy to clean it up for them. A "dirty edit", is when an object is removed from the world by deleting it. If only that one specific mod or DLC is loaded, this won't cause any problems, however if another mod has a reference to that specific object that was deleted, then the game will most likely crash when encountering the object in-game. SSEEdit can "undelete" such deleted records, and "disable" them instead. This will leave references from other mods valid (no crash), and still prevent the object from appearing in-game at the same time. SSEEdit can also fix a lot of other issues, but those are not important for any mods included in this guide. All mods recommended here have already been thoroughly tested for compatibility. Only the official DLC-files from Bethesda should to be cleaned. If you want to further optimize, check out this cleaning guide: (LINK) *It's made for the old Skyrim, but SSE works the same way.CLEANING THE OFFICIAL UPDATE & DLC FILESIf you haven't done so already, download and install SSEEdit:(LINK) *Unpack into the Skyrim game-folder.Navigate to the 'SSEEdit 4.0.4' folder.1: Run 'SSEEditQuickAutoClean.exe'.Now select 'Update.esm' and click 'OK'.2: Wait *This will take several minutes, depending on your system. When done, this message will show: 'Background Loader: finished'.*Time depends on your system. 2025-04-20And choose Skyrim as the game LOOT will be sorting. To sort mods:Click Update MasterlistClick Sort PluginsAccept LOOT’s load orderFinally, you’ll install the SSEEdit script:Download the file manually and put it anywhere you want. I prefer to keep mine in the Skyrim main directory for easy access.Just like you did with LOOT, add SSEEditQuickAutoClean as an app in MO2.Well done, you now have everything you need to mod Skyrim!Cleaning Skyrim's Master Files With SSEEditFor a solid modding foundation, it’s important to clean Skyrim’s master files. You’ll be using SSEEdit’s Quick AutoClean script to do this. The files you will be cleaning are:Update.esmDawnguard.esmHearthFires.esmDragonborn.esmSurvival Mode.eslAdv.DSGS.esmFish.esmMake sure to select one file at a time, then click Okay. Wait for the script to work its magic, then exit the app and repeat for each file. Before you add any mods past the Core Stability, Fixes, & UI section, start a new game in Skyrim and choose Skip Introduction. You'll get a pop up message summarizing the prologue and you can choose to go with Ralof or Hadvar.Skyrim’s introduction perfectly sets the tone, so I do recommend at least watching it. But even on an entirely unmodded Skyrim, the opening cart sequence and Helgen Keep are prone to game breaking bugs and crashes. This is true even more so for a heavily modded game, so that’s another good reason I recommend skipping it.Once you leave the cave, save and exit your game. You will use this save to test your game stability as you mod along.Try to install mods in

People stopped trying to clean up their mods, or just everyone knows what to do? So I'm starting over with Skyrim Special Edition and have only installed the Unofficial SkyrimSE Patch. I want to be as clean as possible as I start entering mods and clean them one by one. So I started with Update ESM and followed the guide by Applying Filter for Cleaning, then Remove Identical to Master records, followed by Undelete and Disable References. Worked fine. Next I tried Dawnguard.ESM, but when I Applied Filter for Cleaning I got a red section in Skyrim.esm, Update.esm and Dawnguard.esm. I went ahead and finished the steps above, saved and came back into Dawnguard.esm, but after applying the filter, I still had the red sections. For example, under Armor, four Falmer armor items were red, and displayed information in the Update.esm column, but no entries in Skyrim.esm nor Dawnguard.esm. So am I to manually copy the entrie from the one that has it into the other two to get rid of the warning. Not sure what to do, and there are many more entries like this. Am I supposed to just blindly make all the red cells in a row be the same across all the columns for all the red entries? 25 December 2014, 11:53AM thx 25 December 2014, 12:55AMThanks so much for these guides there really useful after recently switching to mod organizer. Just wondering if you could please do an updated guide on cleaning skyrim's master files as I'm not to sure what to do about the overwrite file having back up esps in it. 27 November 2014, 4:54PM Gopher thank you so much. This video was excellent and helped me tremendously. 02 November 2014, 10:39AM I've not noticed the "cleaning" having any positive effect on my game. But then, I didn't have any gamestopping issues in the first place. 08 April 2013, 5:02PM For anyone who may not have noticed - TES5Edit is now at version 3.0.2.9 And it cleans quite a bit more than the previous version did = Lots of mods out there need re-cleaning. Right on, and mod authors may have cleaned theirs recently with an earlier version, and not even known about the extra hits now with 3.0.29. So please

Registered: Oct 2020From United KingdomStarkrun: EDIT: Because of how the forum is everything looks weird and is spaced funny. But, if you copy and paste my post into notepad everything will be formatted with the correct spacing. Sorry about that it's just a bug/feature of the forum. This is a 2 step process, one is making a new REG entry and pointing to the GOG edition and the other is SimLinking 2 folders together. For the Reg entry copy and paste this into a notepad then save as GogSkyrim.reg change the isntall path to your install path Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim Special Edition] "Installed Path"="H:\\Skyrim Anniversary Edition\" Now for the simlink: make sure to substitute "YOUR_USER_NAME" with your actual valid Windows profile name. 1 . Locate where the GOG version keeps the plugins.txt file. Nexus says it should be at "C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition GOG" 2 . Open Windows console (either PowerShell or run cmd.exe) 3 . Make sure you don't have a directory under this path: "C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition". If you do - either delete or rename it. 4 . Enter the following command in console: mklink /D "C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition" "C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition GOG" This should create a symbolic link of a directory "Skyrim Special Edition GOG" as "Skyrim Special Edition". This way, any program trying to access the usual SSE path to plugins.txt will see the contents of a GOG version instead. You can make a BAT file for this but make sure you remove/delete the other one in step 3 above first. Now open notepad and copy and paste the below in it substituting your username in the YOUR_USER_NAME section. then
